I drive past the broad gate again, staring as I slow to a crawl. The reflection of my brake lights cast a blood stained red shadow on the stone walls. The gate door is slightly ajar. Did he leave it that way for me? Why on earth he would want to meet in a cemetery after dark is beyond me. But I’m hoping this will be the night. I have been dreaming of becoming Mrs. Thomas Jameson White III.
It’s only been a few months, but I have never felt like this before. He is always consuming my thoughts. When I’m with him, I’m already looking forward to the next time I see him. I can tell he feels the same way, too. He’s actually a little intense. When I speak, he stares so deep into my eyes that I swear he’s reading my mind. The barest of touch sends burning chills up my spine. Every time I’m in his arms, I can feel him breath in the scent of my hair or neck. If that’s not love, I don’t know what is.
Thomas knows how scared of the dark I am. And ghosts terrify me. I can only assume that he’s somehow using that as a way to surprise me with a proposal. That’s the only reason why I would even consider stepping foot into this locked up playground of dead bodies.
I put my hand on the cold cast iron and push the door open. All I can see are shades of black; a glimmer here and there from the moon shining off the polished tombstones. I let my senses lead me through the dark until I am stopped. A cold hand wraps around my small wrist initiating the buzz in my blood. The hand slowly turns me around. I knew it was him. There’s nothing in the world like the connection I share with this man.
Thomas’ eyes are normally the richest caramel you’d ever see, but somehow with the glow of the moon, his eyes looked almost red. The smirk on his face that framed his wide, frenzied eyes were almost foreign to me.
“Is everything alright, Thomas?” I asked
“My love, everything is better than alright.” His red eyes softened ever so slightly. “You’re probably wondering why I would ask you to come to a place like this.”
“Well, yeah, not your ideal date location…” I urged him on.
“Well I thought it would be good to tell you how I feel about you. I also have a question -no, an invitation for you. ”
My heart started to race as my stomach dropped. It was gonna happen….
“I have never felt this way before. You are on my mind day and night. Even when you’re in my arms, I can’t get close enough to you….and I just can’t wait anymore. It’s too much. This thirst for you. The need to have you. I ask you, do you want to spend eternity with me?”
Before I could finish yelling, ‘Yes!’, Thomas’ eyes turn a flaming red. In my frightened state, I slam my eyes shut. And just as sudden, everything is quiet and black.
As I come to, I feel a euphoria take over my body. Starting from my toes and all the way to the wavy vibrations in my scalp. I have never felt so happy and safe in my life. I feel like I’m floating in the calmest peace possible. Suddenly I notice a warmth dripping down my neck. I try to escape the ecstasy and force my eyes open. I peer up at the man holding me in his arms. Caramel brown eyes gaze back at me. He had blood dripping from his lips.
“Darling, the pleasure will wear off and the pain is going to kick in as soon as the venom fills your blood stream. But it wont last too long.”
My memories came rushing back. With every ounce of energy I could muster, I squeaked out, “What have you done to me?”
“It was an invitation to join me for eternity, immortally. You said, yes. You’ll understand soon. The addiction, the need. I’m sorry, my love. I just couldn’t take it anymore. But now, we will be together. Forever.”
